Junior School

Junior School (Age 5-10)

Holistic STEAM Curriculum

Kent College is one of the best British curriculum primary schools in Egypt. As part of our commitment to offering quality education, we combine the English National Curriculum with an emphasis on STEAM education for our Junior School students aged 5-11. STEAM means a holistic focus on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. This prepares our students for the demands of the future, ensuring a high level of rigor, challenging students, and providing them with a modern, internationally recognized curriculum.

Kent College stands out among other British international schools in Cairo by providing a dynamic and engaging learning environment that promotes innovation and critical thinking skills.

In Key Stage One (Ages 5 to 7)

The Learning Areas for Key Stage 1 are Stimulating:

developing different learning styles to promote impactful learning opportunities. Whilst still being supported and enabled in the critical social and learning behaviors embedded during the Foundation Stage, children in Key Stage 1 begin to develop more sophisticated skills as they increase their academic confidence. This includes the development of phonics and effective number skills.

Learning in Years 1 and 2 continues to reflect an inquiry-driven model but with slightly more structure. Planned independent and student-led approaches ensure that students’ individual contributions are valued and that they grow in confidence as they begin to realize their value and contribution to the wider school community. Students acquire knowledge and skills through questioning, exploring and discovery.

In Key Stage Two (Ages 7 to 10)

Our Key Stage 2 students will embark with confidence on more challenging and goal-oriented learning opportunities, both independently and within collaborative teams. In Years 3 to 6, they are encouraged to take more ownership and direction of their learning. This includes developing mastery in core subjects and developing their learning through current research-based cognitive science strategies. Your child will grow and flourish throughout Key Stage 2 into a confident, curious, independent learner in one of the best British international schools in Cairo.

In Key Stage 2, students are given various opportunities to participate in musical, sporting, artistic and academic activities. The student council and other leadership roles offer our older students leadership opportunities; sharing their ‘voice’ and contributing to the school and wider community through a number of valuable projects.

More specialized learning centers are available to our students in Key Stage 2, including a Science laboratory, a STEAM center, a computer suite, specialist teaching rooms for music, art, French and Arabic, and a dedicated Primary School library.

English National Curriculum

The English National Curriculum is driven by the three core subjects: English, mathematics, and science.

These are complemented by the delivery of English National Curriculum foundation subjects;

Music, design and technology, physical education, computing, geography, history, and French.

In addition, pupils in Primary School will study the valuable Egyptian Ministry of Education curriculum subjects of: Arabic, religion, and national social studies.

Teachers will ensure that the experiences they provide give the children the opportunity to develop these different characteristics.
